Music Feeling

**************************

*
The most varied emotions come to me with each diff'rent musical style; Listening to Carole King's music, for instance, takes me through a multicoloured tunnel, not only to that 70's feeling, as most of us know it, nor that psicodelyc reminicense of the 60's. . . no, this is a coloured image full of inocence, that sensation of security and confidence. . . there's no fear, no darkness. . . only games, joy, songs, illusions, hope.

Remembering Sergio Mendes' music brings me that kind of feeling too. . . plus the desire of being part of the creating process of music, there's this kind of eagerness to create music with my voice. . . to create harmonies. . . to be part of that block of sound and feel in my whole body the resonance of the other voices reaching a total empaty state with my own.

However. . . the taste for bossa-nova for me is something peculiar . . . with all its melancholly . . . those special harmonies, soft rythm . . . smooth melodies . . . sometimes make me fall in some kind of dream . . . like a world full of fantasies all wraped up in cellophan. . .

Memories

I grew up in a very particular family, surrounded by games, music, creativity, respect and lots, lots of love.

My beautiful "momi", a sweet loving woman, always an example of love, sacrifice and tolerance; my father, loving and playful but at the same time strong in character, always trying to grow in his five kids, the love for study, creativity, the love for life !

Music was always a very important part of our lives 'cause "Papo" as we use to call him, have always liked to play guitar and sing. He've always loved to listen to very diferent music styles; clasical, jazz, bossa-nova, boleros, mexican music, top hits, everything!

When he was at a very young age, he was invited to be a part of a romantic bolero trio, but, listening to his father's advice, he decided to continue his medical studies to become an exelent respected doctor.

I can remember very clearly those musical evenings, when we were all gathered together around one of his, more than four reel to reel tape recorders. . . he clicked the key REC and started singing with his guitar, it was delightful to listen to all those songs, swing balads, mexican boleros, he also had an instrumental repertoire, nice songs in the Wess Montgomery style;
only the sound of his guitar, his voice and the litlle whisper of the recorder's engine. . . slowly rotating. . . rotating . . . and, every now and then, the sound of the wrinkled plastic tape that seemed that had been used for more than five times.

I specially remember one day when I was about 10 years old . . . I learned for the first time what was a good "placed" voice, we were all ready for the usual recording session, he plays the REC key and, with his particular high pitched voice, announces the name of the song he's about to sing, and . . . after a brief guitar introduction . . . he starts singing with a voice I had never heard before, a voice that would change my life forever. . . he goes . . . "Kiss me once, and kiss me twice. . . and kiss me once again . . . " ! ! ! I was completely amazed, listening to that change of color in his voice! the perfect sound that seemed to fit every space of the room, the ressonance, intensity, that powerful voice that seemed to emerge from the top of his head, his nose. . . and that expression in his face that clearly showed how much he enjoyed those moments of family gathering. . . of music. . .

Now that I think about it, I never noticed those changes of voice in my mami's voice because, whe she talks. . . she uses this kind of studied voice. . . like a light soprano's voice; when she calls for dinner, for instance, she've always used a very melodic voice, and I say "melodic voice" litterally because she produces melodies in every word she speaks, with her nicely placed voice, soft but firm and beautifully tuned.

The family reunions are always a geat oportunity for my father to grab his guitar and. . . calling my mom, they start to sing together turning the reunion into a great partty.

For me, to see them singing together is still a great joy because the way they make a song represents the way they have lived their lives together for more than 50 years now. . . as a couple, as a father and mother, as the foundation of a family, supporting each other, creating "harmony" and sharing it with their beloved ones.

Engish or Spanish

Starting a Blog

I'm starting this blog with big hopes and illusions, I've always been a dreamer... so, I hang on to my dreams . . . hopefully someday they'll come true.

So. . . English or spanish. . .
I live in Morelia, Mich., Mexico so I should write in spanish but,
most of my cyber friends speak in english.

So . . . English, for a start ! !

. . . In a second thought. . . my english is not that good. . . I started learnig enlish because I loved to sing, and the first songs I remember to be singing are. . . Carpenters, Carole King, Sergio Mendez, Diana Ross among many others . . . I was about 13 years old . . . but one thing is, to sing the same song, the same words over and over again . . . and other thing is to, actually talk, say what's on your mind, expres a feeling, tell a story.

Well... maybe I should use both, english and spanis
